Have you ever had a decor element in your home that gives you endless possibilities to decorate and re-decorate? This is how I feel about our new wall shelves from UltraShelf. We received these shelves well packaged and including very sturdy and easy-to-install brackets. The shelves are solid wood and heavy but are securely attached to the wall with the brackets. Click here to see UltraShelf’s YouTube video on how to install them.
We decided to place these gorgeous solid wood floating shelves above our couch in our living room. While normally one sees these types of shelves in kitchens and dining rooms, we are loving having them in the living room where we can restyle and always have a fresh look on our focal wall.
Today I would like to show you how easy it is to style shelves using what you already have around your home. We have created five different styles. While they are different, they have key elements grounding the shelves: books, vases, flowers/greenery, candles, and artwork.

Neutral with Blue Accents
If you have been following us on Instagram, you will notice that we love neutrals with pops of blue to create a a timeless look.
I see shelf decorating as designing multiple small vignettes that work together to create an interesting and eye-catching display. The unexpected decor item here is a fun square plate with a drawing of the Eiffel tour.
Including books that you love along with small decor items add that collected and functional look to the shelves.
A beautiful vase with dainty flowers and a candle on top the books finish this look.
Vintage Green Farmhouse
We loved adding greens, a bit of galvanized metal and a touch of vintage to our shelves in this look.
We used fern clippings from our backyard and an antique looking silver pitcher to complete the look.
We love the touch of vintage this coca-cola crate brings to our shelves.
Another decor element that goes so well in farmhouse style is signs! This little home sign brings just the right amount of rustic to this farmhouse look.
Black & White Minimalist
For this look, we tried to bring in a fresh and uncluttered look to the shelves invoking Scandinavian minimalist and hygee to our shelves.
The main elements to achieve hygee, the Danish concept of cozy, are natural elements like the wood, greens, and candles to bring warmth and coziness to the space.
The different black and white patterns bring interest and texture to this look.
Black and white is timeless and works in so many styles. In here we tried to stay neutral and minimalist but this would work great too for a bohemian styled home.
My couch is brown and does not go with the different colors I try to use in the room, this faux fur saves the day every time!
Bold Parisian Influence
While I have been decorating my home with whites, blues and grays, I still have a soft spot for bold colors. The red touches we have added here remind me of bold Parisian decor while not being too loud.
There is something so appealing about a bright cherry red against white.
The mercury glass candle holders bring a bit of bling and pair nicely with the cherry red.
A touch of Coastal Happiness
While I love Coastal decor, I live far away from the ocean or from a lake. But I do like to add some touches to my home that reminds me of the water and sand.
I love this shade of blue from these vases, it reminds me of the ocean and beautiful coastal colors.
This trio of vases on the 12-inch shelf add to the beautiful grouping of vignettes that make these shelves a focal point in the room.
Adding a lantern brings memories of waking along the beach on Summer nights.
There are some many ways to decorate these shelves, I can’t wait to decorate them for the seasons and holidays! I did receive free product from UltraShelf but all opinions are 100% my own.
